Uroflowmetry

Uroflowmetry is a simple and painless test that measures how well your urine flows out of your bladder. It tracks how fast, how much, and how long you urinate. It can help your doctor diagnose and monitor various urinary problems, such as blockages, infections, incontinence, or weak bladder muscles. Uroflowmetry is usually done in a doctor’s office or a laboratory, and it takes about 15 minutes to complete. You may need to avoid certain medications, foods, drinks, or activities before the test to ensure accurate results. You may also need to wear a nose clip and a mouthpiece to prevent air leakage. You will be asked to urinate into a funnel or a special toilet that is connected to an electronic device called a uroflowmeter. The uroflowmeter records the amount and speed of your urine on a chart or a computer. The results are expressed as milliliters of urine per second. Your doctor will compare your results with normal values based on your age, sex, and health condition. Uroflowmetry is generally safe, but it may cause some discomfort, embarrassment, or anxiety. It is not recommended for people who have severe urinary problems or who are pregnant. Uroflowmetry is a useful tool to assess your urinary function and health
